Penderlea Farms
Penderlea Farms is a 575-acre family owned farm located in Burgaw, NC. We're on a mission to preserve and repopulate the Historic Style Live Oaks in Southeastern, North Carolina. We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of best practices in the industry and harvest our acorns from some of the oldest and most famous trees in the area.

Our mission is to protect public access, promote responsible use, and preserve the traditions of Masonboro Island, the largest undisturbed barrier island along the southern part of the North Carolina coast. We work to keep those traditions -- surfing, camping, fishing, boating, paddleboarding -- open to you, your family, and even your pets for years to come.
Since 2009, hundreds of grassroots volunteers have removed and recycled over 20 tons of trash from Masonboro Island during the annual 4th of July Celebration. In 2013 we launched the Masonboro Island Explorer [ILX] program: an educational, science-based field trip to the island which is now available to all fifth-grade students in New Hanover County.
Own Your Own
Founded in 2022, Own Your Own (OYO) comes as a culmination of Turtle Cove founder Richard Johnson’s two greatest passions: helping entrepreneurs and giving back to the community. OYO is designed to give hopeful entrepreneurs the opportunity to connect with investors, open small businesses and help revitalize historic downtowns. Expanding upon the work of Burgaw Now, OYO launched a nationwide restaurant challenge at the end of 2022 with the prize being a million dollar budget to design and build a restaurant in Burgaw, NC. The challenge attracted over 500 applicants from across the U.S. and Canada, each with their own concept and vision for the space.
